A Trip down the memory lane |College memories| Part 2 – By Sonal Jain
College life has given me an ample number of memories and has taught me to be grateful for things in life. It is a phase I am glad I went through because there have been so many instances of new learning or beginnings that I can never stop remembering.
I am writing part 2 because summing up my college memories in a hurry will be an injustice to the importance it has in my life.
Earlier I shared about the societies I was a part of, but today I will share how they have transformed me for the better. When experiences become your strength, the transformation is fruitful.
College Society that taught me leadership and accountability-
Deshbandhu express, the media portal I spoke about, I joined in my first year as a member and photojournalist, but I did not imagine certain advancements in this journey. I was happy about the work that was happening because it was very new. It felt very surreal because I was the only girl with a camera.
In the crowd of hundreds, when all attention is on you, it scares you. It made me anxious because I was all alone, but I fought my fears, did not put ears on what people said, and only followed my heart.
When our seniors, who were also the founders of the society, soon were passing out from college. The worry was to handle the responsibility of the portal. A senior came up to me and said I should take DE’s responsibility. For the first time, I felt the power of responsibility and trust.
From a Member to President
I took charge of the portal as the president. From the old team, only three of us began a new journey. We did interviews, built a team of 15 people.

It felt like an achievement. Before I took charge, the work of DE was limited to social media and less of interactions, but I made sure to make it the talk of the town. We collaborated with small competitions, department fests, college fest and gave our logo as media partners. DE became a spotlight, and I enjoyed the process.
In the 3rd year, I decided to shift the responsibility of president post because everyone deserves a chance, and new people bring freshness into the work.
That is when I introduced the post of MENTOR, for people in 3rd year.
The word mentor felt like a big responsibility.

All this is nothing but a phase of learning. I began from taking responsibility and owning things to building a team and being a leader. From trying to bring a change in the work to shifting responsibilities as a goodwill gesture, everything was new, and it all made sense.
Minor fights, arguments, and disappointments were also a part of this journey, but they never affect the work we put forward. Here I learned about both leadership and being a team player both.
College society that taught me Team effort-
Enactus society and our roles never felt like work because everyone bonded so well and understood their responsibility individually. We had many exciting projects, fun field works, and great seniors to learn and interact with. In Enactus, the process was formal, but the working environment was fun.

One major lesson from Enactus has been the importance of team effort. If you are a team player, you can bring the best version of yourself to the plate. It not only enhances your strengths but also helps you find your hidden talents.

Food outlets and College fests-
These were the two things I loved the most in college. My college was at a good location because and it was constantly surrounded by food outlets. Bonding with friends over food makes the best memories, and it is something I recall even today. I still remember my friends loved coming to college only to hang out in the food outlets.
College fests have been good to me because I had a team of members, and all of us playing the role of media partner. It was always a fun 2-day event, and I have enjoyed every bit of it. Those two carefree days, very different from the routine was the best time I had.

Department fests have my heart-
If there is one thing I would want to go back to college for is the Department fest. It felt like home when we all gathered to prepare. The whole preparations had many indifferences, but in the end, when things turn out to beautiful and there is a sense of relief. It is one sacred time for us to build relations with our seniors and juniors equally, and I am proud that I did it.

It had competitions, art, themes, decorations, sneaking out with a friend to grab some food and everything was ours and ours only. Department’s fests were the heart and soul of my college life, and I can never forget it.
Some fun memories to always remember-
I am a major tea lover, and I had a few friends who were always up for a quick tea break. We crossed the heights when after each lecture, we took a break for tea on a tea stall outside. There are some good and happy memories from this tea stall. It became our center to talk about things and be ourselves and talk about the surroundings.

Spending time with food and friends in the canteen was also a routine thing, especially during winters sipping hot tea. These little memories in college make your life so much better.
Today we all look back to think how good this time was and crave to go back to this phase of our lives.
Diwali Mela in college was organized for the first time and it was one of its kind. Everything felt so beautiful. My batch was at the forefront in organizing it because we headed our respective societies. All our energies merged so well and we were able to put up this Diwali Mela.

The Scribble and official photograph Day
Every batch has an official photograph day and so did we. Everyone enjoyed this day to the core because it felt like the end of college days. My heart was sinking while thinking about the few months left to leave the college.

Like freshers and farewell, scribble day was something I always want to witness. It got delayed a few times but eventually, it all came together. It was such a fulfilling day to see each other's good wishes. I feel there is something about college that you cannot experience anywhere else. These small gestures and moments create a big impact on us. The scribble day marked the end of college.

An unimaginable surprise at the end of my college life-
When I won the title of Ms freshers, a little dream of my life came true, and I thought to myself, what better feeling there is. But I was wrong. My college farewell proved me wrong because I won the title of Ms. Farewell as well.

I was shocked, my heart was jumping with joy, and the wrong impression that I had about myself, broke that day. The Journey from Ms freshers to Ms farewell taught me to love myself more than ever and, I realized the importance of believing in myself.

My impression of such occasions has always been related to bodily images. It shattered in front of me, one by one, and I was the happiest person breathing that day.

I am glad that I got to be a part of this phase of my life. Nothing has been more rewarding than my college life. Speaking of college, I would also like to address that in a situation like today, Pandemic since 2 years, many kids were not able to fully get through this beautiful experience.
I feel all of us who were able to live this experience, need to express gratitude towards it. My heart breaks to see people not being able to experience a live college but no situation is in our control. I wish so better days to come soon.
I hope you liked reading the blog and my college experience. I am sure it has reminded you about your college days as well. If yes, then do share your favorite college memory below.
